Overdraft Protection What You Need to Know About Overdraft Coverage
An overdraft occurs when you do not have enough money in your account to cover a transaction, but we pay it for you so you aren’t charged a returned item fee by the merchant. It’s important to know when you will be charged overdraft fees, and what your options are for coverage.
Qualstar can cover overdrafts in two ways:
- Basic Courtesy Pay is standard overdraft protection that comes with your checking account and has coverage amounts based on your history. It does not cover one-time Visa® Debit Card purchases or ATM transactions. For one-time Visa Debit Card purchases and ATM transactions, you may opt in for Extended Courtesy Pay (opt-in form below.) Each coverage option incurs a $20 per-item fee (for each merchant presentment) for items $20 and over; items below $20 are paid automatically, with no fee.1
- Overdraft Transfer links your checking account to a savings, money market, Visa® Credit Card, or line of credit account. This is not set up automatically on accounts, and you must let us know if you would like to link a savings, money market, Visa Credit, or line of credit account for overdraft protection. There is no transfer fee for overdraft transfer from a savings or money market account. However, normal cash advance fees for lines-of-credit and Visa Credit Cards still apply.
